Privacy Policy

This policy explains what information is collected when you use montaukfishingjournal.com (the "Site"), who collects it, what it's used for, and the choices you have. We've tried to write it in plain English.

1. Who we are

The Site, the Montauk Fishing Journal, is published by Anglers LLC, which also publishes noreaster.com. In this policy, "we," "us" and "our" mean Anglers LLC.

2. The short version

  • You don't need an account to read anything on the Site, and we don't ask for your name or email to read it.
  • The Site uses a first-party analytics script supplied by our website platform (Lovable). It counts page views and measures page performance, using a short-lived session cookie.
  • Our network provider (Cloudflare) sets a security cookie that helps block automated abuse.
  • Our hosting and network providers receive standard technical information, such as your IP address and browser type, every time your browser requests a page.
  • When advertising runs on the Site, Google may use cookies to show ads, including ads based on your visits to this and other sites. You can opt out of personalized ads (see Section 5).
  • We don't sell your personal information for money. Some uses of advertising cookies may count as "selling" or "sharing" under certain U.S. state laws. Section 8 explains your choices.

3. Information collected automatically

3.1 Website analytics (provided by Lovable)

The Site loads an analytics script from our own domain (/~flock.js), supplied by Lovable, the platform the Site is built and published on. Based on our review of the script as served on Sept. 27, 2026, it does the following:

  • Sets a first-party cookie named session-id containing a randomly generated identifier. The cookie lasts 30 minutes (Max-Age 1800 seconds). The script can instead store this identifier in your browser's localStorage or sessionStorage with the same 30-minute expiry, depending on configuration.
  • Records page-view events, including the page address (URL and path), the referring page (if your browser sends one), your browser's user-agent string (browser and device type), your browser's language setting, and an approximate country inferred from your device's time-zone setting. It doesn't use GPS or precise location.
  • Records page-performance measurements (such as how quickly the page loads and responds, often called "web vitals").
  • Sends these events to an analytics endpoint on our domain (/~api/analytics). From there they're processed by Lovable and its analytics infrastructure providers. The script refers to Tinybird (api.tinybird.co), a data-processing service. Where that data is stored and how long it's kept is governed by Lovable's own terms and privacy policy.

Like any web request, the request to the analytics endpoint necessarily carries your IP address.

We use analytics data only in aggregate: to see which pages are read, where readers come from and whether the Site loads well. We don't use it to identify individual readers, and we don't combine it with other information to do so.

3.2 Security cookie (Cloudflare)

The Site is delivered through Cloudflare, which protects it from malicious traffic. Cloudflare sets a cookie named __cf_bm on devices that visit sites using its bot-protection features. According to Cloudflare's documentation, the cookie:

  • is necessary for those bot-protection features to work,
  • expires after 30 minutes of continuous inactivity,
  • contains information used to calculate a bot score, encrypted so that only Cloudflare can read it, and
  • is generated separately for each site, so Cloudflare says it doesn't use it to track you from site to site.

3.3 Server and network logs

When your browser requests a page, our hosting and network providers automatically receive standard technical information: your IP address, the date and time, the page requested, the referring page, and your browser's user-agent. Providers use this to deliver the Site, keep it secure, and diagnose problems. The Site is published through Lovable's hosting and delivered through Cloudflare's network. Each provider keeps its logs for its own standard period.

4. Information you give us

  • Email. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you include in your message. We use it to reply and to handle corrections, and we keep it only as long as needed for that purpose (see Section 10).
  • Newsletter. The Site doesn't currently collect email addresses for a newsletter. If we add a newsletter, we'll update this policy before the sign-up form starts collecting anything, naming the mailing provider and explaining how to unsubscribe.

5. Advertising

5.1 When ads appear

Ads on the Site, when shown, are served by Google AdSense. Each ad unit is labeled "Advertisement." Advertisers don't review or influence our editorial content.

5.2 Google advertising cookies

When advertising runs on the Site, we use Google AdSense to show ads. In connection with those ads:

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to our users based on their visits to this site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google's Ads Settings at https://adssettings.google.com. Alternatively, you can opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting https://www.aboutads.info.

When a page with Google ads loads, Google says your browser automatically sends it certain information, including the page address and your IP address. Google may set or read cookies, and Google may use similar technologies such as web beacons. Google says it uses this information to deliver and improve its services, measure the effectiveness of advertising, protect against fraud and abuse, and personalize ads. If you turn ad personalization off, Google says you'll still see ads. Those ads may be based on things like the topic of the page or your general location, but not on your interests or browsing history.

5.3 Other ad vendors

At present, Google is the only advertising vendor on the Site.

5.4 Affiliate links

The Site doesn't participate in any affiliate program. Links to boats, shops and other businesses are editorial links, and we earn nothing when you click them. If that changes, we'll say so here and on the pages involved.

6. Visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland

If you visit from the EEA, the UK or Switzerland, we ask for your consent before personalized advertising cookies are used, through Google's own consent message, which is certified by Google and integrated with the IAB Transparency & Consent Framework. We won't serve ads to visitors in these regions until that consent message is live on the Site. You can change or withdraw your choices at any time through the privacy settings link or button that the consent message adds to the Site.

Where the law of these regions applies, our legal bases for processing are: your consent (personalized advertising, and non-essential cookies where required); our legitimate interests in running, securing and understanding use of the Site (strictly necessary security cookies, server logs and aggregate analytics); and compliance with legal obligations. You may have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data, to object to or restrict certain processing, to data portability, and to complain to your local data-protection authority. To make a request, contact us using the details in Section 1.

Information may be processed in the United States and other countries where our providers operate.

7. Do Not Track and Global Privacy Control

Browsers may send "Do Not Track" signals, but there's no common standard for responding to them, and the Site doesn't respond to them at this time. We also don't separately process Global Privacy Control signals; you can opt out using the choices in Section 8.

8. Your U.S. state privacy rights, including "Do Not Sell or Share"

Residents of several U.S. states, including California, Colorado, Connecticut, Virginia and others with comprehensive privacy laws, have rights over their personal information. Depending on your state, these may include the right to know what we collect, to access, correct or delete it, and to opt out of the "sale" of personal information, the "sharing" of it for cross-context behavioral advertising, or its use for targeted advertising.

  • What we collect is described in Sections 3 and 4: identifiers such as IP address and cookie IDs; internet activity such as pages viewed and referrers; and approximate location inferred from time zone or IP. If you email us, we also collect your email address and your message.
  • Selling and sharing. We don't sell personal information for money. When advertising runs on the Site, allowing Google to set cookies for personalized ads may count as a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, or as "targeted advertising," under some state laws.
  • How to opt out: use the "Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information" link on the Site (shown to U.S. visitors whenever ads run and Google's U.S. state regulations message is enabled), use Google's Ads Settings (https://adssettings.google.com), or contact us using the details in Section 1.
  • Other requests: to ask to know, access, correct or delete your information, contact us using the details in Section 1. We may need to verify your request. You may use an authorized agent where your state's law allows. We won't discriminate against you for exercising these rights. Where your state provides a right to appeal a decision on your request, you may appeal by replying to our decision.
  • We don't knowingly sell or share the personal information of consumers under 16.

9. Children

The Site is written for a general audience and isn't directed to children under 13. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we'll delete it.

10. How long we keep information

  • Analytics session identifier (session-id): expires after 30 minutes in your browser. Aggregated analytics data is retained by Lovable and its processors according to their policies.
  • Cloudflare __cf_bm: expires after 30 minutes of inactivity.
  • Server and network logs: kept by our providers for their standard periods.
  • Emails you send us: kept for 24 months after your last message, then deleted.
  • Advertising cookies (when ads run): set and controlled by Google, with lifetimes set by Google. See Google's page linked in Section 5.2.

11. Security

We rely on HTTPS encryption and on the security practices of our hosting and network providers. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

12. Links to other sites

The Site links to boats, shops, government agencies, publications and noreaster.com. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which we don't control.

13. Changes to this policy

When we change this policy, we'll update the "Last updated" date above. If a change is significant, such as starting advertising, we'll also note it at the top of this page.
